In 1776, 800 American Patriots held off 3,000 British Red Coats at a small inlet on the north end of Sullivan’s Island. These valiant men were led by citizen-soldier William “Danger” Thomson. Their victory helped prevent the capture of Charleston by the British. The History Workshop worked with a group of local citizens determined to recognize and honor the men who fought at Breach Inlet by developing a small park at the location where the battle took place.
We designed three interpretive panels to tell their amazing story of sacrifice and success. Our in-house illustrator created a custom drawing of the turning point in the battle when the Americans turned around thousands of British soldiers in flat boats as they tried to cross the inlet and take Sullivan’s Island. The park was dedicated in June 2011.
