Charleston City Hall
Charleston, South Carolina
Components: Interpretive panels; Projected video; Artifact cases
The History Workshop designed and fabricated a series of interpretive exhibits for the ground floor of the City of Charleston, South Carolina's newly restored City Hall. In 2007, major renovations to the building were completed. Our interpretive exhibits present an overview of the history and architecture of City Hall, as well as the unique archaeological excavations conducted inside the building during the renovations. These investigations revealed the foundation of Charleston's first meat market, built in 1739. The completed exhibits include interpretive panels that incorporate informative text and images, and display cases that present some of the artifacts and objects recovered during the building restoration and during the archaeological investigations.
