Daniel Island is a unique planned community located near the City of Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to development of the island a number of archaeological surveys and investigations were conducted to record and document archaeological resources across the Island. Daniel Island contains a variety of archaeological sites including a Native American hamlet, antebellum plantations, post-bellum tenant farms, and brick kilns.
The History Workshop developed a History Trail for one of the many island’s many public parks. The Trail highlights the archaeological and historical heritage of Daniel Island through a series of eight outdoor panels. The panel topics include Native Americans, Archaeology, Colonial History, Plantations, Slave Life, Tenant Farmers, Brick Kilns, and the Guggenheim’s, the last landowners.
