MCAS Beaufort Exhibit
Beaufort, South Carolina

Components: Interpretive panels, Artifact cases

The History Workshop has just completed a comprehensive Public Outreach program for Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Beaufort, South Carolina. The program includes a variety of products designed to help staff of the Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Office, who manage cultural resources on the facility, share their stewardship and knowledge of the history and prehistory of the land that is now the Air Station with the public. The program includes permanent displays about the history, prehistory, archaeology, and cultural resources management at their base headquarters and at their library.

In addition, we designed and fabricated a series of double-sided interpretive panels that present an overview of Native American culture in the Lowcountry, the history of the region, the variety of archaeological resources identified on the base, and the laws and regulations that protect cultural resources as the heritage of all Americans. These are free-standing panels slide into easy to assemble legs for display at any venue NREAO staff deems appropriate and they are available for loan to interested organizations and civic groups.

This exhibit was developed in conjunction with the MCAS Beaufort Education Program.
