Point Peter Education Program
Camden County, Georgia
Components: Lesson Plans, Educational Trunk, Website, Web Game
The Point Peter excavations focused on a substantial War of 1812 site located near St. Marys, Georgia. The site consisted of a military fortification composed of earthworks, a parade ground, and barracks. The goal of the educational program was to present the events and impacts of one of the most forgotten events in U.S. history, the War of 1812. Programs were designed for middle school students and meet Georgia Department of Education curricula standards. Lessons focus on the lives of soldiers, the impacts of the war on national and foreign policy, lives of enslaved Africans living in Georgia during the war, and archaeological method and theory.
This education program was developed in conjunction with the Point Peter Exhibit
